The Country Music Association of Australia have announced their list of nominees for the 46th Toyota Country Music Awards of Australia to be held on Saturday January 27th in Tamworth.

Queensland artist Brad Butcher has picked up THREE nominations including – Male Artist of the Year, Alternative Country Album of The Year and QANTAS New Talent Of The Year.

“This is quite an amazing honour. I’ve focused everything on my songwriting and live performance, in the past 6 years in particular, to be the best I can be with a dream of some day being nominated for a Golden Guitar. To be acknowledge at this level and rewarded with 3 nominations is quite mind blowing. Thank you!”

Its been a breakout year for Butcher who released his third album From The Bottom Of A Well in August . The album peaked at #4 on the iTunes Country Albums Chart and features the singles Well Dressed Man and title track From The Bottom Of A Well.

Brad launched the album with dates through Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland with additional dates opening for Troy Cassar-Daley, Sara Storer and Busby Marou.

“I’ve seen more of this fine country in the past 8 months than I have in the last 34 years and I consider it a privilege to be able  to call songwriting and performing my day job. The old adage that has motivated me for so many years has become a reality ~ find your obsession, make it your profession and you’ll never work a day in your life ~.
Opening for Troy Cassar-Daley, Sara Storer and Busby Marou has been an absolute joy. To play to huge audiences of people intently listening to every word in the song are the kinds of gigs I dream about and I can’t express my gratitude enough to each of them.
Since April I’ve performed over 100 gigs around the country in backyards, caravan parks, pubs and clubs. From the back on semi trailers in the pouring rain to Brisbane’s beautiful South Bank area on a sunny Saturday afternoon and to every single one of you who came out to one of the shows and gave me a space and an audience to sing my own brand of country music to. Thank you!”

“In listening to Brad Butcher’s latest album From The Bottom Of A Well, I felt like i was hearing a record that James Taylor and John Hiatt decided to make together… with Rodney Crowell’s backing band. Great songs, vocal delivery and sound.”  Marc Swersky

I always look forward to hearing a new Brad Butcher album – knowing he will be moving forward musically and lyrically – it won’t be the same as the last – that’s what a true artist does – is faithful to their creative spirit and vision – and by so doing they carve out a place in the market that is theirs and theirs alone. Well Dressed Man is pure Brad Butcher and it ticks all the above boxes for me – so I’m eagerly anticipating the rest of the Album”  Graeme Connors

Butcher’s lyrics have a point to make rather than a box to tick, so at times you’ll find people struggling with mental health rather than the state of the crops, men who don’t know exactly how this works, women who matter but won’t necessarily be held, wrong decisions made and paid for, and moments when all that can be said is a call for clarity to help get to the next point in a life. Bernard Zuel
